MIB “Man in Black” ... my character name. 😎 Looking forward to seeing this movie next month!
The film has a unique and thrilling concept, so... no spoilers. Details when it is released... I believe in sharing results. Watching the process really isn't all that exciting. You every watch a team, musician, actor warming up? It really isn't all that fun. When it's game time, that's a blast! So, with that being said, I'll have a bunch of announcements in the next few months of all that I'm creating - when they are done. I look forward to sharing them with you. Until then, all I can say is, watch "Bob's Burgers!" not because I'm in the show, I'm not, just because it's frickin' funny, heartwarming and damn good. Hope you are having a great Spring everyone! Your pal, Paul
* The year started off a bit nervously; I had a pain in my stomach exactly where the cancer had originally manifested. After 3 months of paperwork, insurance, appointments, clinics, doctor visits, blood tests, scans and more, I finally got my results; I am 100 % "Crazy, Sexy Cool." All that and Cancer Free. What a way to start off 2018!
Looking forward to sharing the wonderful, exciting and challenging adventures I'm up to this year! Sending all of you much joy, success and sunshine... every single day. Your pal, Paul Cancer "Thriver" , Creator of www.youtube.com/channelsurfingstudios and more cool stuff soon... Cancer Awareness Month is September. It's also the anniversary of my Stage 4 diagnosis in 2007.
10 years later I've come a long way. A challenging, exhausting, enlightening journey. One part of my experience I always focus on is what I've been able to achieve during this decade ... Executive produce 100 minutes of high quality content. 2 years in a theater company. Create 4 screening fundraiser events for people with cancer. Act in a variety of movies, web shows, plays, films. Write a very rough first draft of "Dear Cancer, I Win." All while teaching English for most of this time. Focus on the positive. Work hard. Be relentless. Be patient. Stay hungry. Deal with negatives. Exercise. Eat healthy. Rest. Sleep. Take time for fun. Work harder. Improve. Learn. Don't give up. Be efficient. Be effective. Celebrate my successes. Work even harder. Focus on the positive. This was such a blast!
Playing a gangster is not only fun, yet it's even more exciting when the director encourages and celebrates improvising on every single take. Sometimes it was difficult not to laugh, because these characters said so many ridiculous lines all night. I'm super jazzed for when this series is screened next year. That is going to be a special and wild night! Stay "Gangster!" After taking a nice break for the Summer in my hometown of San Diego, I was asked to jump into this West Coast Premiere of "The Pitch." It's a semi-autobiographical play about the challenges of Paul Rodrigues and his efforts getting Latinos onto TV & Film. Paul & Mike Gomez represent two different Latinos working in the entertainment industry as their journey unfolds.
It was super cool, because I got to play the the total A-Hole Executive who uses numbers as a thinly veiled mask for prejudice against minorities. When I step onto that stage, the atmosphere of the show takes an uncomfortable turn for the worst. The audience squirms in their seats as I spew this detailed chart of why "America" doesn't want "You People" on television. Yikes. I declare the sad state of affairs that really does still exist today. Poignant, harsh and yet, funny all at the same time. It was a role to relish and cherish until the moment I walk off the stage leaving frustration and disgust in the wake of my path. I represent something that is often unspoken, however when you turn your TV on, there are clearly many groups of people not represented. It was an honor to be apart of this project! Orale'! Why this sketch? How did it evolve? The truth is, it came from the truth. I remember a time in high school, when a friend was telling me he kissed a girl from our class over the weekend. He then said "She's a bad kisser." What he didn't know is that last year, I kissed her too and I thought it was great. So I starterd to think that maybe my friend was the bad kisser. In the end, it's all subjective. When two people connect and their chemistry is magic, then the kissing is right on. Cheers to all of you who have found it... if not, stop by this restaurant and get some friendly advice! Paul Thrilled to be the guest for the opening show of Season 20!
