After taking a nice break for the Summer in my hometown of San Diego, I was asked to jump into this West Coast Premiere of "The Pitch." It's a semi-autobiographical play about the challenges of Paul Rodrigues and his efforts getting Latinos onto TV & Film. Paul & Mike Gomez represent two different Latinos working in the entertainment industry as their journey unfolds.
It was super cool, because I got to play the the total A-Hole Executive who uses numbers as a thinly veiled mask for prejudice against minorities. When I step onto that stage, the atmosphere of the show takes an uncomfortable turn for the worst. The audience squirms in their seats as I spew this detailed chart of why "America" doesn't want "You People" on television. Yikes. I declare the sad state of affairs that really does still exist today. Poignant, harsh and yet, funny all at the same time.
It was a role to relish and cherish until the moment I walk off the stage leaving frustration and disgust in the wake of my path. I represent something that is often unspoken, however when you turn your TV on, there are clearly many groups of people not represented.
It was an honor to be apart of this project! Orale'!
