"Our top story tonight... the News" episodes 1, 2 , 3 & 4 are here! All new, Re-edited, new graphics and more. Each "NewsCast" is about 2 minutes long and perfectly ridiculous.
So, the the origin of these parody sketches came from the same source as the Will Ferrell movie "Anchorman" a newscaster was in my hometown of San Diego for a short time. If you've seen the movie, it takes place in San Diego. Why, because this was based on a real dude. In fact, I've been doing my character John Sorenson, "America's Greatest Newscaster", for many years. I actually had to change my interpretation, because people who saw me perform live thought I was copying the film. So the cat is out of the bag, Will Ferrell stole this character from me. I feel so relieved to finally have shared that! : )
Finally, I did meet the actual man who this movie was based on, Mort Crim. During his time in San Diego, he lived near where I was performing at the La Jolla Comedy Store. One night, after I finished doing my stand up set, I stopped at the liquor store to get a Tiger's Milk protein bar. Mort was at the counter buying... here it comes... cigarettes, vodka and deodorant. I guess he had one helluva an evening planned. He took his bag of goodies from clerk, turned to exit and as he walked passed, he smiled at me and said "Go get em' kiddo! True. And that is the story of John Sorensen.
Thank you for your talents Catherine Christensen Zotnowski, Ben Whitehair, the awesome editing by Steve Hosford.
Super fun, exciting and very special for me! It's a wonderful sense of joy and accomplishment to watch the videos and present them to you today. Enjoy! Paul Lauden
